Every year the Pantone Color Institute reveals a color of the year. The idea is to introduce a color that will embody the aesthetic, spirit, and inspiration for the new year. In case you’re curios, the Pantone color of the year for 2016 was a blend of rose quartz and serenity. The color-minded person no doubt noticed rose quartz and serenity appearing in weddings, home décor, and floral arrangement.
Now 2016 is a thing of the past, and 2017 has arrived. With the new year comes a new color of the year, which has been revealed to be greenery. The Pantone Color Institute describes greenery as “A refreshing and revitalizing shade, Greenery is symbolic of new beginnings.” Connoting the beginnings of Spring, greenery inspires revitalization, restoration, and rejuvenation.
Some individuals may feel that greenery lacks vibrance and can be easily forgotten as a background color. Well, those individuals would be correct, but not for the reasons they may think. Greenery is purposefully a neutral color. There’s a natural green all around us, but we so easily forget about it. Perhaps the point is to appreciate the subtle, beautiful green that covers most of the planet. Especially in a world that is progressively more caught up in screens, appreciating natural colors has never been more important.
You’ll forgive the pun, but greenery is a natural fit with the floral industry. Much of what makes floral so refreshing are the beautiful, naturally-occurring colors. Greenery compliments flowers extremely well because, in its natural state, flowers grow from green grass. As we implement the 2017 Pantone color of the year, our floral packaging will transmit an even more natural aesthetic. Almost like the flowers are still growing in the grass!
How do you think you could add more greenery to your life? Do you think greenery is a worthy color of the year? Let us know what you think!
