Keep Your Flowers Looking Fresh with These Tips

Whether you’re selling flower arrangements in a supermarket, an online marketplace, or a specialty flower shop, you need to keep them fresh for as long as possible. Wrapping flowers in cellophane with water is a practical technique that not only keeps the blooms fresh, but also adds an elegant touch to your floral arrangements. Here, we’ll go through the steps of how to wrap flowers in cellophane with water so you can leave a lasting impression on your customers.

The Importance of Aqua Packing

The process of wrapping flowers in cellophane with water is also known as aqua packing. This technique ensures that cut flowers remain hydrated and in optimal condition during transportation and storage. When flowers are aqua packed, they continue to absorb water through their stems, prolonging their life. This process also helps protect delicate flower petals, leaves, and stems from being damaged or bruised during handling and transportation.

How to Wrap Flowers in Cellophane with Water

1. Choose Your Flowers

Choosing the right flowers is the most important step in the entire aqua packing process. Consider the color scheme and types of flowers that are in demand. After you’ve chosen the most appealing variety, ensure that the stems are healthy and free from wilting or damage. This will ensure that the flowers can survive the shipment from your location to the retail store or final consumer.

2. Trim the Stems

Using floral scissors or any kind of sharp scissors, trim the stems of your flowers at a slight angle. Cutting at a 45-degree angle is optimal because it increases the flower’s ability to soak up as much water as possible.

3. Remove Thorns and Excess Leaves

It’s also important to remove any thorns or extra leaves that may be on your flowers. If left in place, the submerged plant material may decay and shorten the life of the cut flowers. It’s also just a good rule of thumb to remove those pesky thorns before they go to the end consumer.

4. Arrange the Flowers

Before you start wrapping your flowers in cellophane, ensure the flowers are in the appropriate arrangement. Keeping your end consumer in mind, create visually appealing combinations of colors and varieties.

The wrapping process will be easier if you arrange the stems in a spiral pattern. After tying them, they should be able to stand up on their own. This will streamline the wrapping process and help you get your products to market faster.

5. Wrap with Cellophane

When wrapping your flowers, choosing the right cellophane variety is key. You can use clear cellophane — in fact, this is one of the most popular varieties. But you can also choose custom or stock options with unique and eye-catching designs. Wrapping the outside of the bouquet with these colorful options is a great way to encourage sales.

The best way to wrap the outside of the bouquet is to use two separate pieces of cellophane. Using one piece of cellophane, fold it so it creates a triangle shape. Repeat the process with the second piece of cellophane.

Put one piece of cellophane around one half of the bouquet, repeating the process with the other half. From there, you can use rubber bands or twine to secure the cellophane to the stems.

Now that you’ve wrapped the outside of the bouquet, it’s time to create the bag that will hold the water. The easiest way to add water is to wrap the stems in the cellophane, creating a small bag at the bottom. Once you secure it with rubber bands or floral tape, it should stay in place and create a great environment for your flowers. Simply fill it with water, then pack the flowers into a protective box. These boxes should stay upright to discourage any water from leaking out of the cellophane bag.
